"Jack Ryan" has found its title character. According to Deadline, "13 Hours" star John Krasinski has signed on to play the lead role in the Amazon television adaptation of Tom Clancy’s popular CIA hero.

Set to debut on Amazon, the series won’t be based directly on any of the novels or previous films — which featured various actors playing the character of Ryan, from Alec Baldwin to most recently Chris Pine — but will instead use the books as source material to create a modern day, contemporary update of the character, who still works for the CIA as an operative/analyst.

The show hails from Paramount Television, Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland. It also comes from Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, Skydance Media, with executive producers Carlton Cuse, Roland, Lindsey Springer, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, Andrew Form and the movie franchise’s producer Mace Neufeld.

"Jack Ryan" has not yet been greenlit, but Krasinski's casting may help push the studio towards a series order.
