Amazon's adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s The Boys has cast Karen Fukuhara as a series regular.
According to a report from Deadline, Fukuhara will play the character known only as Female, a mysterious assassin with superpowers and incredible fighting skills. When The Boys first come into contact with her, she doesn't speak and is feral, but learns what it means to be human over the course of the series.
Comic book fans will recognize Fukuhara for her appearance in 2016's Suicide Squad as the sword-wielding Katana. After making her American film debut, she is also voicing a recurring role in the Cartoon Network animated series Craig of the Creek, which is scheduled to debut later this month.
Slated for a 2019 release, The Boys is being developed for television by Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen. The series will star Fukuhara as Female, Jack Quaid of Wee Hughie, Laz Alonso as Mother's Milk, and Erin Moriarty as Annie January/Starlight. Members of the superhero group The Seven have been cast, with Antony Starr cast as The Homelander, Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve, Jessie T. Usher as A-Train, Chace Crawford as The Deep, and Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir. The official casting for main characters Billy Butcher and The Frenchman have yet to be announced.
