The Boys is nominated for five 2021 Emmy Awards, including one for Best Drama Series against the likes of The Crown and This Is Us, and showrunner Eric Kripke is happy to celebrate the show's recognition and remind audiences of what kind of content it boasts.

Kripke reacted to the nomination on Twitter with the simple statement "YOU GUYS" followed by the hashtag "#EmmysVotedForATenFootDick," referring to the scene in the Season 2 episode "The Bloody Doors Off" in which the heroes are attacked by a gang of indentured superhumans - including one whose power is an elongated, prehensile penis. The character is an adaptation of Love Sausage, an eccentric Russian supe who is one of the Boys' allies in the comic series. The Boys official Twitter followed up by asking, "Ok but will you wear the scarf [actor Laz Alonso] got you to the ceremony," since Alonso's character, Mother's Milk, is who gets nearly constricted to death by the attack.

Kripke previously discussed when he first heard the news of the nominations while filming Season 3. "So I just saw Jack [Quaid] just sent me video of Karl [Urban] announcing to the crew that we [were nominated]," he said. "And everyone was just so excited. I think it's a real shot in the arm and can really give everyone some validation as they're limping into the final stretch."

In addition to Best Drama, The Boys was nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for the season finale, "What I Know," Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Season or a Movie, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One-Hour) and Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for the song "Never Truly Vanish" that Starlight sings. It also received four nominations from the Hollywood Critics Awards. However, despite the efforts of Jack Quaid, the series sadly did not receive any Emmy nominations for its cast.
