CIA operative and action hero Jack Ryan is taking his world-saving from the big screen to the small screen with a new series from Paramount Television by Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland set to debut on Amazon, who has given the show a full series commitment.

According to Deadline, the series won't be based directly on any of the novels or previous films -- which featured various actors playing the character of Ryan, from Alec Baldwin to most recently Chris Pine -- but will instead use the books as source material to create a modern day, contemporary update of the character, who still works for the CIA as an operative/analyst.

The show also comes from Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, Skydance Media, with executive producers Cuse, Roland, Lindsey Springer, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, Andrew Form and the movie franchise's producer Mace Neufeld.

Paramount TV is also partnered with Amazon to develop a television based on "Galaxy Quest."
