Michael Rooker has joined the cast of Amazon Studios' Dark Tower series, a television adaptation of Stephen King's classic novel series of the same name.
Rooker, known for playing Centaurian space pirate Yondu Udonta in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Merle Dixon in AMC's The Walking Dead., is currently filming the pilot episode in Croatia with the rest of the crew, according to the actor's official website. His role in the series remains a mystery.
Other actors cast for the show are Sam Strike, Jasper Pääkkönen and Game of Thrones star Jerome Flynn. Strike plays Roland Deschain, also known as the Gunslinger. Deschain is Dark Tower's protagonist, who pursues The Man in Black, also known as Randall Flagg; his character is played by Pääkkönen. Flynn has been cast in a thus far unnamed cowboy role.
Over a thirteen episode season, Dark Tower will tell the story of how Deschain became a gunslinger and met his nemesis, The Man in Black. It is the second live-action adaptation of the book series, following 2017's movie of the same name, starring Idris Elba.
Amazon Studios' Dark Tower is developed by Glen Mazzara, Akiva Goldsman and original writer Stephen King. It is targeted for a 2020 release.
