The Amazon-owned digital comics storefront ComiXology issued a statement regarding recent changes to the platform that have left countless customers frustrated and -- in some cases -- unable to read their digital books."We want to take a moment to address the transition to our new app & comics webstore experience," ComiXology wrote. "We know this process has been far from seamless and we’ve heard your feedback. We understand how important improving the web reader experience is and are working as fast as possible to implement those improvements. This is our top priority right now."RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Comixology Announces Brazilian Street Art Series Red Tag

ComiXology went on to note that an update has already been made to the Fire OS app while promising subsequent updates to the New Releases filter. The company further explained that seemingly missing features such as Guided View -- which guides the reader from panel to panel -- are still available by simply double-tapping a panel. It also noted all previous purchases, including DRM-free downloads from prior to the 4.0 update, are available through the account page on the web version of ComiXology.

"Moving to the new codebase and away from our dedicated web experience was a tough call, but it’s an important step towards our long-term goals - to share our love of comics, manga and graphic novels and to reach more lifelong fans," the company explained. "We hear your feedback and we recognize that there’s a lot to be done. We appreciate your patience and support while we do everything we can to bring you the experience we envision. More to come."

ComiXology was founded in 2007 and has long been considered the leading digital comic book distribution platform. The company was purchased by Amazon in 2014, and the acquisition proved controversial thanks to Amazon removing the ability for readers to make in-app purchases through iOS.

"ComiXology’s mission is to spread the love of comics and graphic novels in all forms," ComiXology co-founder and CEO David Steinberger said at the time of the Amazon purchase. "There is no better home for comiXology than Amazon to see this vision through. Working together, we look to accelerate a new age for comic books and graphic novels."

In mid-February 2022, Amazon used its own storefront to replace the existing ComiXology website while also overhauling the app and shutting down ComiXology Submit. This resulted in numerous complaints, with many claiming their digital comics were nigh-unreadable, particularly on the ComiXology website.
