Ahead of its U.S. series premiere later this week, Alex Rider has been renewed for a second season by Amazon and IMDb TV.

Based on the book series by Anthony Horowitz, the show follows Alex Rider, a teenager who finds himself working for MI6 after his super spy uncle dies under mysterious circumstances. While the premier season adapts Point Blanc, the second novel in the series, Season 2 will be based on Eagle Strike.

According to the official series description,

Alex Rider is an ordinary teenager enlisted to work on behalf of MI6, where he uses skills he didn't know he had to become an extraordinary spy.

"We're doing very well on Season 2 right now. Scripts are being shuttled off to the production office and we're planning to shoot early next year," showrunner Guy Burt told CBR. "There's a very twisted path there between Yassen and Alex. They only meet for a tiny fraction of a moment in Season 1, but their stories are very intertwined. I'm in the middle of Season 2 at the moment and without getting any spoilers up on screen, Yassen continues to play a part in Alex's life."
