In recent years, it has not been uncommon to see studios announcing remakes of some beloved games, perhaps most notable among them being Square Enix's remake of Final Fantasy VII. While some of these games are simply remastered to retain the essence of the original style and gameplay, others are overhauled completely to fit the tastes of the modern gaming audience.

10 Star Wars: KOTOR Ranks Among The Best RPGs Of All Time

Darth Revan Star Wars

Often considered the best of any Star Wars video game, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a beloved RPG that delves deep into the lore of George Lucas's deep and compelling universe. Telling a story long before the decline of the Jedi, the game was praised for its incredible story, engaging characters, and beautiful soundtrack.

Fans have been calling for a remake of the game for years, and in 2021, they finally received their wish when it was announced that a remake of the game was in development by studio Aspyr alongside a teaser featuring one of the most popular characters in the franchise.

9 Bully Is Rockstar's Ignored And Rambunctious Child

The juvenile delinquents get agitated in Bully

While the twin goliaths of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption may dominate most discussions when it comes to Rockstar games, many fans still fondly recall Bully, a game that very much adhered to typical Rockstar style yet puts the player in control of a young delinquent sent to a high-end boarding school.

The game was well-received by fans, many of whom have been long hoping for a potential sequel. With no return to Bullsworth Academy on the horizon, a remake of this game would be the perfect way for Rockstar to keep fans satiated while they await the next entries in their main franchises.

8 Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Had Incredible Gameplay

The Prince from Prince of Persia Sands of Time

In many ways, the Prince of Persia series is the spiritual predecessor of Ubisoft's wildly popular Assassin's Creed franchise, which grew out of concepts originally designed for the earlier series. The game put the player in control of the titular prince and featured fantastic third-person platforming, puzzles, and combat as the staple of its gameplay.

Considering its huge influence on Ubisoft and gaming in general, it is no surprise that a remake of this classic was announced back in 2020 but has suffered several delays since then and currently has no set release date.

7 GoldenEye 007 Was The Game Everyone Played

Fighting a room of enemies in GoldenEye 007 video game

For console gamers in the N64 era, playing GoldenEye 007 was a near-ubiquitous experience. As the third best-selling game for that console, almost everyone had played it, whether that be at home with the great single-player experience or with friends for the incredibly fun multiplayer mode.

Few games can achieve the same level of nostalgia of this classic, especially when the iconic opening music plays. While a remastered version was once in development, it was cancelled due to licensing issues, yet this game could still see massive popularity if a modern remake was released today.

Crimson Skies gameplay

Crimson Skies was an arcade flight game set in an alternate history where the United States and Canada are split into many independent nations, and the primary means of travel and warfare is done in the air. The game's story focuses on Nathan Zachary, an air pirate leading a group known as the Fortune Hunters on many action-filled aviation adventures.

While there are no announced plans for a modern-day sequel, a remake of this game would be a perfect entry into a genre of games that has seen very little representation in recent years, where most aviation games focus on realism over arcade-style action and antics.

5 Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines Lives On In Fan's Hearts

As many fans will agree, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines was a game that did not entirely deserve the fate it received. Although it was praised for its story and setting, the many technical issues caused it to fall far behind competing games and contributed largely to the decline of the studio that developed it.

While in recent years fans have made patches for the game, a true remake of this game would be the perfect opportunity to give the story the reception it deserved and bring in a new audience for this dark and subtle setting that truly did deserve better.

4 Perfect Dark Was Ahead Of Its Time

Building upon the overwhelming success of GoldenEye 007, Perfect Dark was a game that was objectively better in almost every respect, with enhanced graphics, gameplay, and an engaging story featuring a near-future setting.

A remastered version of the game was released in 2010, but what truly excited fans was when a full remake was announced at The Game Awards 2020, featuring a teaser trailer that showed a world being battered by natural disasters and rampant technological growth, as well as a glimpse of the series protagonist, Joanna Dark.

3 Lord Of The Rings: Battle For Middle-Earth Was Peak RTS Gaming

In the aftermath of Peter Jackson's monumental adaptation of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, several video games were released in the following years to capitalize on that popularity. Some of the best games to be released from that time were the Battle for Middle-Earth series of strategy games, which played much like other RTS games of the time set in the fascinating world of Middle-Earth.

A remake of this franchise would be the perfect complement to modern adaptations of the books such as Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, and could well be a competitor for other games such as the Total War: Warhammer series of games as well.

2 Summoner Is a Forgotten Gem

Something of a cult classic among RPG gamers, THQ's Summoner was a game that featured some pretty unique mechanics, an engaging story, and an original fantasy setting. Players took on the role of Joseph, a classic farmboy-turned-hero, who is the game's titular Summoner and can call forth creatures into battle to fight alongside him and his companions.

While not as popular as some other games in the genre, Summoner is ripe for a remake due to its interesting takes on action-RPG gameplay and a story and world that could easily be expanded upon in a way that would doubtless appeal to modern audiences.

1 Jade Empire Was Some Of Bioware's Best Storytelling

Combat from Jade Empire

As a studio well-known for its deep and compelling story-based games, Bioware has no end of classic RPGs that fans would love to see brought into the modern era. While many of those games have received remakes or remasters in recent years, Jade Empire is one that has yet to get the same treatment.

With a well-designed story set in a world inspired by Chinese history and mythology, Jade Empire was a huge hit with fans who became immersed in the story as well as the fun and engaging combat mechanics and RPG elements. A sequel to the game has not been ruled out, but a remake of the original would surely be just as appealing to the many fans of this classic RPG.
