The following contains major spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man #24 from Marvel Comics.

Amazing Spider-Man writer Zeb Wells has been warned to avoid attending upcoming comic conventions due to fan backlash.

Speaking with Popverse in an exclusive interview, Wells touched on the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #26 -- an issue that Marvel previously teased will be the "most shocking issue of Amazing Spider-Man in 50 years." While Wells didn't reveal any concrete details as to what fans should expect out of Amazing Spider-Man #26, he did say he's been warned by editor Nick Lowe not to attend any conventions following its immediate release. "I can tease that many people will be very mad at me," Wells said. "I can tease that Nick [Lowe] told me not to do any comic conventions after this issue comes out. People will be upset."

Wells continued to say he doesn't know how Lowe went about running the idea for Amazing Spider-Man #26 up the editorial ladder at Marvel Comics. When asked how long he intends to stay on the title, Wells said he'd ideally like to be around long enough to reach 50 issues. "Once we get there we just have to see," he said. "I'm getting busier with other things, but I'll be on this as long as I can humanly do it. If I can do it, they will have to kick me off this book. The exact length is undecided, but I'm in the long haul. I'm here until at least issue 50."

Amazing Spider-Man #26 Involves a Major Death

The current Amazing Spider-Man storyline is explaining what action Peter Parker did that made nearly the entire Marvel Universe hate him, while also illuminating why Peter and Mary Jane Watson broke up. The most recent issue, Amazing Spider-Man #24 (released on April 19, 2023, from Wells, John Romita Jr., Scott Hanna, Marcio Menyz and VC's Joe Caramagna), revealed Mary Jane got together and had kids with a man named Paul after she was trapped in a separate dimension where time works differently. Marvel has also hinted in solicitations for Amazing Spider-Man #27 (releasing June 14, 2023) that the monumental 26th issue will involve a "shocking death" that will loom over Peter.
