SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man #800 by Dan Slott, Nick Bradshaw, Humberto Ramos, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Stuart Immonen, Marcos Martin, Victor Olazaba, Cam Smith, Wade von Grawbadger, Edgar Delgado, Java Tartaglia, Marte Gracia, Muntsa Vicente and VC’s Joe Caramagna, on sale now.

After reading the 70-plus pages of the historic Amazing Spider-Man #800, it's understandable if you stopped reading once you got to the variant cover gallery and letters pages. However, if you thumbed all the way through to the end, you were rewarded with a short post-credits scene that took place in San Francisco, CA.

A character named Elliot Tolliver -- which we later learned is a new alias for Otto Octavius -- is taken on a tour of the all-new Horizon University by Max Modell, formerly of Horizon Labs. Max describes the campus as a place where staff and students can let their imaginations run wild. Before handing over the Amazing Spider-Man keys to the incoming creative team of Nick Spencer and Ryan Ottley, Dan Slott has set up a new location to be explored in the Spider-Man family of titles.

Of course, Horizon University shares a striking resemblance to Horizon High in Disney XD's Marvel's Spider-Man animated series. Both schools are established as a place for young, brilliant scientific minds to experiment and be around others just like them. A high school aged Peter Parker attends Horizon High on the Disney XD series with fellow heroes Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy and Anya Corazon. Along with Max Modell, the Horizon High staff includes known villains Adrian Toomes (Vulture) and Otto Octavius (Doctor Octopus).

With only a few scarce appearances in the Marvel Universe, it's too soon to tell whether Horizon University will open its doors to young Spider heroes as well. The school's west coast location does limit the number of heroes who could possibly enroll, with a good majority of Marvel's superheroes living in the greater New York area.

Horizon High from Marvel's Spider-Man

One thing Horizon University has going for itself is the fact Otto Octavius has secretly planted himself inside its halls as an employee. This development guarantees Horizon University will appear again, either in a comic from the Spider-Man family of titles, or somewhere else in the Marvel Universe.

Otto's heroic turn in Amazing Spider-Man #800 saw the former Doctor Octopus join forces with Spider-Man to protect Aunt May from the Red Goblin. "I still have your memories," Otto told Peter. "Many of them. Rattling around in my head. Your upbringing." For saving Aunt May's life, Peter granted Otto a clean slate as far as their decades-long feud goes. Perhaps Otto took this act of leniency to heart and decided to use his genius-level intellect to benefit Horizon University. If that comes to pass, then Horizon University can reach the same star-studded level of its cartoon counterpart, Horizon High.
