Amazing Spider-Man is giving Gwen Stacy the Kraven's Last Hunt treatment.

Among the variant cover art for Marvel's upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #32 from writer Zeb Wells, artist Patrick Gleason, and colorist Marcio Menyz is a stunning homage variant by artist Elizabeth Torque that calls back to one of the most iconic Spider-Man stories of all time. With Spider-Gwen rising from her own grave, the pose and setting are a direct reference to Mike Zeck's iconic cover art from the collected edition of Spider-Man: Kraven's Last Hunt by Zeck and writer J.M. DeMatteis.

Wells' run on Amazing Spider-Man has led the titular wall-crawler in some shocking directions, including through time itself thanks to the machinations of the villainous Benjamin Rabin. Readers have already seen the aftermath of these events play out, which includes Mary Jane developing powers of her own as well as finding a new family amidst the end of her decades-long relationship with Peter Parker.

What Is Kraven's Last Hunt?

Originally published in 1987, Kraven's Last Hunt saw the titular villain take his best and final shot at taking down Spider-Man, eventually succeeding at burying his enemy alive. Though this doesn't prove to be permanent, the story itself very nearly was for Kraven, who took his own life after being bested yet again by his web-slinging foe. Kraven's Last Hunt has gone on to be memorable not only for fans but for those who inhabit the Marvel Universe itself, especially as its influence continues to be felt in Spider-Man comics to this day.

Amazing Spider-Man #32 is written by Zeb Wells with art by Patrick Gleason, colors by Marcio Menyz, and letters by VC's Joe Caramagna. Main cover art is by John Romita Jr., Scott Hanna, and Marcio Menyz, with variant cover art courtesy of Patrick Gleason, Adam Kubert, Marte Gracia, Elizabeth Torque, and Giada Parissinotto. Amazing Spider-Man #32 goes on sale Aug. 23 from Marvel Comics.
