The Sony Pictures social media team acknowledged the fan movement for the studio to make another Spider-Man film starring Andrew Garfield. In a recent tweet promoting Spider-Man: No Way Home's release on Digital HD, the official Sony Twitter account poked fun at the popular hashtag "#MakeTASM3," calling for the studio to produce The Amazing Spider-Man 3 with Garfield. "The Amazing Peter #3! (Note: Yes, weâve seen the hashtag. No, we donât decide which movies get made. Weâre just the social team)."
The acknowledgment of the fan outcry for more Spider-Man films starring Garfield has caused fans to flood the tweetâs replies with the hashtag. The campaign for more Garfield films has been steadily growing since his return in No Way Home, and Sonyâs latest tweet has further revitalized the hashtag.
It's not just fans of the Wall-Crawler that want Garfield to reprise his role as Peter Parker; the actor opened up about how much he'd love to star in The Amazing Spider-Man 3. "I mean, yes, definitely open to something if it felt right,â Garfield said. âPeter and Spider-Man, those characters are all about service, to the greater good and the many. Heâs a working-class boy from Queens that knows struggle and loss and is deeply empathetic. I would try to borrow Peter Parkerâs ethical framework in that, if there was an opportunity to step back in and tell more of that story, I would have to feel very sure and certain in myself.â
Sony was originally planning on making more films with Garfield after The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The 2014 film was supposed to kick off Sonyâs own Spider-Man universe, which would have included The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 as well as spinoffs for Venom and the Sinister Six. Yet after the second filmâs weak reception, plans were halted and the character was ultimately rebooted for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016âs Captain America: Civil War.
Fans have also called for Sony to produce a Spider-Man 4 starring Tobey Maguire since his return in No Way Home, but neither film has received any official announcement. While audiences would love to see more of Garfield and Maguire, Sony is busy producing Spider-Man spinoffs like Morbius, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse- Part One and Two, and the recently announced untitled Madame Web film.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently out on Digital HD and is coming to 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray on April 12.
