Mockingbird Lane might be dead, but that doesn’t mean you won’t ever see another take on The Munsters from NBC.
The Hollywood Reporter put a few questions to NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt about the rejected revival by Bryan Fuller. The pilot, which starred Jerry O’Connell, Portia de Rossi and Eddie Izzard, aired in October as a Halloween special.
Asked whether the network might show the episode again next, Greenblatt said, “This show run again? Maybe, I hadn’t thought about it. I’m not saying we won’t maybe try another version of The Munsters again, it’s a good idea, we just have to figure out how to get it right.”
Of course, when he says “get it right,” he’s basically saying that something was off with Fuller’s reboot. He elaborated a bit: “It’s a very tricky tone to strike because we tried to make it not just a sitcom and a silly old-fashioned one at that; we turned it into an hour, which automatically has more dramatic weight than a half-hour. It’s hard to calibrate how much weirdness vs. supernatural vs. family story and I think we just didn’t get the mix right.”
