Fresh off the heels of its second season, Altered Carbon is getting an anime spinoff film this month on Netflix, Altered Carbon: Resleeved.

The first trailer for the anime adaptation has been released by Netflix, showcasing a cel-shaded-inspired CG version of the acclaimed science fiction series. Set in the same universe as its live-action counterpart, the upcoming film takes place on the planet Latimer as a new incarnation of series' protagonist Takeshi Kovacs is revived in a "sleeve," the series' term for host bodies that carry over old consciousnesses through a device known as a cortical stack.

The anime adaptation boasts a whole host of superstar talents from the Japanese animation industry, including writer Dai Sato, one of the screenwriters behind Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell.

The trailer brings the bloody fury to the forefront, as Takeshi is tasked with protecting a tattoo artist targeted by the yakuza in a cyberpunk vision of Japan. With plenty of sword fights against a neon backdrop, Altered Carbon: Resleeved looks to bring the sci-fi title in imaginative new directions.
