"Madman" creator Mike Allred teams up with Mark Waid for "Daredevil" #17 this August.

"Daredevil" #11 had a special surprise in the letters page in April -- a note from none other than "Madman" creator and "X-Statix" artist Mike Allred. Addressed to Marvel Comics editor Stephen Wacker, the artist said he would "love to do a guest spot" on the book. Now, it looks like "Daredevil" readers will get a chance to see Allred's handiwork in August when the artist teams up with series writer Mark Waid for "Daredevil" #17.

In an interview with USA Today, Allred related his connection with "Daredevil" from a young age.

"Daredevil is one of the first comic-book icons I was ever exposed to," Allred told USA Today. "I clearly remember hanging upside down on the monkey bars at recess and reading a Daredevil paperback."

Although Wacker told USA Today he ran the fan letter from Allred "just as a goof," he noted writer Mark Waid "went nuts" when he heard Allred would be doing a fill-in issue of "Daredevil."

"To me, the ultimate expression of Daredevil is a shot of him bouncing off a flagpole," Wacker said. "There's just something very Daredevil about that, more than even Spider-Man. That sense is what Mike brought to 'Madman,' and that jester acrobat is something he does really, really well."

Although "Daredevil" #17 will only be a single issue for Allred, Wacker noted that in addition to drawing Daredevil, there will also be "plenty of sexy Matt Murdock, Foggy and the cast."
