As if news that Smallville is coming to an end weren't enough of a blow to fans, Allison Mack has confirmed she won't return as a series regular for the 10th and final season.

However, that doesn't mean we've seen the last of Chloe Sullivan, the high-school newspaper editor turned professional journalist and Justice League tech guru.

"Out of respect for the amazingly loyal fans and the place I will always have in my own heart for Chloe, I’m coming back for several episodes next season to tie up Chloe’s Smallville legacy properly," Mack said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello.

Speculation about her departure have circulated since at least last fall, due largely to her contract ending with Season 9. With Mack no longer a series regular, star Tom Welling is left as the last remaining original cast member.

Chloe Sullivan was created by series developers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar especially for Smallville -- most of the other central characters had their roots in DC Comics -- and starred in the online spinoff series Smallville: Chloe Chronicles.
