Six months have passed since Netflix dropped To All The Boys I've Loved Before: P.S. I Still Love You, the sequel of its hit 2018 teen romance, and people are still having heated debates over whether they are Team Peter or Team John. When John Ambrose, Lara Jean's middle school crush, entered the scene, conflicts in her relationship with Peter caused her to develop feelings for her old flame, but in the end, she chose Peter, which was absolutely the right decision.

Lara Jean and Peter's Chemistry

Although Lara Jean and John did have some cute moments together, and she literally fell for him, it was nothing compared to the chemistry she had with Peter. They shared their first kiss back in seventh grade, and the kiss on the track field that started off their "fake" relationship just proved how into him she still was years later. They didn’t have any awkward flirting phases, nor did they find the silence between them uncomfortable, and the hot tub scene they shared was electric. That charge in the air wouldn’t have been so kinetic had the two lacked this powerful chemistry.

Lara Jean's Break Up Was Because of Insecurities

While it’s true that Peter hid things from her and slipped on more than one occasion, it was primarily Lara Jean's insecurity about her relationship with Peter that led to their breakup. She had never dated someone before and was constantly worried that her inexperience would drive Peter back to his ex, Gen. Her feelings towards John was just a way for her to avoid confronting the insecurities she had.

Lara Jean and John go way back, studying together in middle school where they both developed secret crushes on each other. Then he moved away, only to come back years later, sweeping her off her feet with his perfect behavior and alluring ways, but it's unclear what his true personality was like when he wasn't trying to impress Lara Jean. However, when it came to Peter, Laura Jean knew who he was, saw what he grew up to be and knew how to handle his complicated side. With John, she would have been busy chasing a fairytale ending, but by choosing Peter, Laura Jean opted to continue a real relationship.

Peter Remembers the Little Things

To All The Boy I've Loved 2 Lara Jean and Peter first date

On paper, Lara Jean and John were the perfect match. They had similar hobbies and passions, which allowed them to bond right away. However, in reality, it's the differences that connect two people. When it came to Peter, who's very different from Lara Jean, he consciously made the effort to get to know her and saw their differences as aspects of her individual self. He was open to discussing the difficult parts of his life with her and was always ready to hear what she had on her mind.

What’s more, he remembered the small details, like how Lara Jean hated to drive, so he started to pick her up before school. He also knew she liked Korean yogurt and drove all the way across town to get it for her. Furthermore, he always made an effort to get to know her family. Finally, there was the date he set up at the beginning of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before: P.S. I Still Love You.  Although they had been "dating" for a while, he planned a special night as they began a real relationship, making him the best choice.

Based on the book by Jenny Han, Netflix's To All the Boys I Loved Before: P.S. I Still Love You is directed by Michael Fimognari, written by Sofia Alvarez and J. Mills and stars Lana Condor, Noah Centineo and Jordan Fisher. It is now streaming.
