It: Chapter Two

it movie

New Line is the major film studio with the earliest start this year, hosting its SDCC 2018 presentation on Wednesday, July 18. Leading the Warner Bros. subsidiary's horror offerings is the Stephen King sequel It: Chapter Two. The eagerly anticipated follow-up to last year's hit adaptation It, the upcoming horror film will be featured by New Line at the Horton Grand Theatre on Wednesday at 9:30 PM as part of the studio's annual ScareDiego event.

With the sequel having only just begun filming last month, it is unclear how much, if any, of the new movie will be shown at the event or if any of the cast and crew will appear but with the horror adaptation headlining the presentation, it should provide attendees with a first look with the film's return to Derry.

It: Chapter Two is scheduled to be released by New Line on September 6, 2019.

The Nun

the nun

The bulk of New Line's presentation this year is expected to focus on the upcoming horror film The Nun. A spinoff from The Conjuring franchise, the movie takes place in 1952 and details the origins of the demonically possessed nun's ghost from the 2016 film. As part of the studio's annual ScareDiego event at the Grand Horton Theatre on Wednesday, July 19 at 9:30 PM, New Line has teased an extended look at the spinoff with clips from the film.

It is unclear if the cast or crew for the new movie will appear to present the exclusive early look. Last year's ScareDiego featured a surprise screening of previous Conjuring spinoff Annabelle: Creation ahead its August release, but it may be too early for a full advanced showing of the new film.

The Nun is scheduled to be released by New Line on September 7.

The ultimate hunter returns to Earth for a sneak peek next week. Shane Black's upcoming Predator sequel takes over Hall H on Thursday, July 19 at 10: 30 AM. With neither Dark Phoenix or The New Mutants expected to have a presence at this year's convention, the sci-fi action sequel is slated to be Fox's biggest presentation this year and should be the last major glimpse of the film ahead of its release in less than two months.

The Predator is scheduled to be released by Fox on September 14.

Halloween

halloween 2018

Halloween comes early to San Diego this year. As part of Universal's Hall H presentation, David Gordon Green's eagerly anticipated Halloween revival will have a panel as part of the presentation on Friday, July 20 at 3:45. Not quite a full reboot or sequel to the iconic slasher franchise, the latest installment of the long-running series serves as a follow-up to only the original 1978 film effectively ignoring all the subsequent sequels and reboots in the interim forty years.

While specifics on the panel are currently under wraps, Jamie Lee Curtis, the definitive scream queen that starred in the original movie and the upcoming follow-up, is rumored to appear to unveil even more footage of the horror film after last month's well-received first trailer.

Halloween is scheduled to be released by Universal on October 19.

Glass

Universes collide in M. Night Shyamalan's Glass. The 2019 film blends the worlds of Shyamalan's 2016 thriller Split and his postmodern superhero 2000 movie Unbreakable as Bruce Willis' heroic David Dunn takes on James McAvoy's powerful Beast and criminal mastermind Mr. Glass, played by a returning Samuel L. Jackson. The upcoming crossover will be part of Universal's Hall H presentation on Friday, July 20 at 3:45.

While first footage from the film was screened in April at CinemaCon to positive audience response, the SDCC panel will showcase the film which is much further in development, perhaps including a first official trailer. Details on the panel are currently unannounced but Shyamalan is rumored to appear along with stars Willis, Jackson, and McAvoy.

Glass is scheduled to be released by Universal on January 18.

Bumblebee

Paramount's Hall H presentation this year will reportedly focus on only one upcoming film this year: The Transformers spinoff prequel Bumblebee. The 1980s-set movie centered on the fan-favorite Autobot will be the first ever Transformers film to officially have a panel at SDCC. Paramount's presentation is scheduled to be held in Hall H on Friday at 5 with director Travis Knight joined by stars Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena on a panel providing a look at the film ahead of its December release. The first trailer for the upcoming spinoff debuted last month and surprised fans with a heartfelt, emotionally-charged focus that promises to be unlike any Transformers film that came before it. Bumblebee is scheduled to be released by Paramount on December 21.

Venom

Tom Hardy as Venom

Sony's SDCC presentation this year will feature a strong presence from the upcoming Venom solo film. The studio's Hall H presentation is on Friday, July 20 at 6:15, with back-to-back panels for its Spider-Man inspired spinoffs. Focusing on the eponymous occasional Marvel antihero and longtime Spider-Man antagonist, Venom is set outside of the MCU as Sony begins to build their own cinematic universe.

Details on the panel are unannounced as of right now, though star Tom Hardy is rumored to appear with co-stars Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, and Jenny Slate. The panel is also expected to unveil brand new footage after a trailer in April showed the symbiote-powered superhero in action for the first time.

Venom is scheduled to be released by Sony on October 5.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Sony's 2018 SDCC presentation continues with a panel for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. As part of the studio's back-to-back Spider-Man inspired panels on Friday, July 20 at 6:15 in Hall H, the upcoming animated film is scheduled to have its own panel.

With its heavily stylized visual and bubblegum pop art sensibilities, the first trailer for movie wowed audiences when it debuted its latest trailer last month showing Miles Morales teaming up with Peter Parker and Spider-Gwen in a multiverse-spanning epic with Parker even teasing a bigger reveal for San Diego telling Morales to "save it for Comic-Con". Details on the panel are still being kept under wraps but the cast, including stars Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, and Hailee Steinfeld, are expected to appear.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is scheduled to be released by Sony on December 14.

Wonder Woman 1984

Perhaps the highest profile film represented at this year's SDCC, Wonder Woman 1984 leads Warner Bros.' presentation. Star Gal Gadot will reportedly take a break from filming the sequel in Washington, D.C. to arrive in San Diego for an appearance on a panel promoting the film.

While it is unclear if Gadot will be joined by the rest of the cast, including new additions Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal, or returning filmmaker Patty Jenkins, it should provide a first look at the iconic DC superhero's return to action. As indicated by the title, the DCEU sequel is set in the 1980s with Diana Prince taking on Wiig's Barbara Minerva who is destined to become the villainous Cheetah. The panel is scheduled to be part of Warner Bros.' Saturday presentation in Hall H starting at 10:30 AM.

Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled for release by Warner Bros. on November 1, 2019.

Details on who will appear on the panel are still being kept under wraps but filmmaker Wan is rumored to make an appearance along with stars Jason Momoa and Amber Heard. In addition to the Saturday panel, the cast of Aquaman is scheduled to appear on late night talk show host Conan O'Brien's final SDCC 2018 episode with Momoa and Heard expected to appear on the program. The episodes will be taped in San Diego's Spreckels Theater from Wednesday, July 18 through Saturday, July 21 with the Aquaman-centric episode scheduled to air on TBS on Sunday, July 22 at 11 PM EST/PST.

Shazam!

After months of speculation, it sounds like Shazam! will indeed have a presence at SDCC this year. The upcoming DCEU film will part of Warner Bros.' Saturday presentation in Hall H at 10:30 AM and is expected to debut the first trailer for the DC superhero as teased in a now-deleted Instagram post from the film's cinematographer Maxime Alexandre.

It is unclear how much of the studio's presentation will feature the Earth's Mightiest Mortal or if there will be a panel featuring director David F. Sandberg or any of the film's cast including stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, and Mark Strong but fans will get to see the all-age friendly addition to DCEU in action for the first time.

Shazam! is scheduled for release by Warner Bros. on April 5.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Fantastic Beasts Newt Scamander header

While unconfirmed, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is widely rumored to have a presence at Warner Bros.' main presentation on Saturday, July 21 in Hall H at 10:30 AM; the previous film had their own panel appearance at SDCC in 2016. The latest addition to J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World of Harry Potter and sequel to 2016's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the upcoming fantasy film follows Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) escaping from imprisonment after the events of the first film. As the evil wizard gathers followers to conquer the non-magical community, Hogwarts professor Albus Dumbledore teams up Newt Scamander to stop Grindelwald once and for all.

As the sequel's appearance at has yet to be confirmed, there is only speculation on whether there will be a panel with the cast, or any footage shown, but it would provide a prime opportunity for the studio to debut the first trailer for the film.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is scheduled for release by Warner Bros. on November 16.

Mowgli

Another unconfirmed but rumored appearance for Warner Bros.' Hall H presentation is the studio's Jungle Book adaptation Mowgli. Helmed by Andy Serkis and featuring an all star cast including Serkis, Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Naomie Harris, the upcoming fantasy film is a blend of live-action and performance capture and promises to be a darker interpretation of the classic story aiming to be closer to Rudyard Kipling's original novel.

There hasn't been much news regarding the film since it released its first trailer in May, and the Warner Bros. presentation on Saturday, July 21 at 10:30 AM would be a good chance for the studio to provide an update and possibly release a second trailer.

Mowgli is scheduled for release by Warner Bros. on October 19.

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part

lego movie 2 logo

The last film unconfirmed but rumored to appear as part of Warner Bros.' SDCC presentation this year is The LEGO Movie 2. The animated sequel to the popular 2015 film has alien Duplo invaders render Bricksburg an apocalyptic wasteland leaving Master Builder Emmett to put his abilities to the test to save his friends. While the film's presence is unannounced for the studio's Saturday presentation in Hall H at 10:30, there will be SDCC exclusive LEGO sets available tying into the film.

Additionally, previous LEGO films including last year's The LEGO Ninjago Movie had a panel at SDCC featuring the film's cast so the 2019 sequel is expected to follow suit. With only a teaser trailer released last month, it would be a good time for the studio to release the full-length theatrical trailer for the all-age friendly franchise.

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part is scheduled for release by Warner Bros. on February 8.

Deadpool 2

deadpool 2

Wait, wasn't the Deadpool sequel already released this past May to record-setting box office success and critical acclaim? Well, yes, but there's a version of the film that the general public has never seen before. SDDC attendees will have access to the world premiere of Deadpool 2: The Super Duper Cut on Saturday, July 21 in Hall H with a panel at 5:15 and screening at 10 in the Horton Grand Theatre.

While there is no word if the cast or crew will appear to promote the August home video release of the extended cut along with the special SDCC screening, an appearance by star Ryan Reynolds in-character as the Merc with a Mouth is almost guaranteed as Fox has teased that the screening will feature "some surprises".

Deadpool 2: The Super Duper Cut is scheduled to be released on digital HD on August 7 and on Blu Ray on August 21.
