Cameron has been attached to an adaptation of Battle Angel Alita since 2000 after being first introduced to Yukito Kishiro's titular manga by Guillermo del Toro. The film stars Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley, Keean Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Lana Condor, and Eiza González.
