A new promo for "Alien: Covenant" focuses on Katherine Waterston's character Daniels, and her interactions with Mother, the shipboard computer on both The Covenant and The Nostromo from Ridley Scott's 1979 "Alien."

While Mother isn't super-helpful when Daniels is craving something for breakfast that isn't oatmeal, she's at least more useful at locating xenomorphs than the motion trackers in previous "Alien" films – they couldn't even pick up when there was something nasty lurking in shafts or ducts above or below their victims.

Based on this footage alone, it seems Daniels may end up playing a role similar to that of Sigourney Weaver's Ripley in the first few "Alien" movies. But will Daniels make it to the end of the film alive? That will likely only be answered in Covenant" itself.

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

Directed by Ridley Scott, “Alien: Covenant,” stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England and Benjamin Rigby, and hits theaters on May 19.
