In "Alien: Covenant," the upcoming sequel to 2012's "Prometheus," Michael Fassbender will play two different androids with vastly different attitudes. While he will reprise the role of David (who debuted in “Prometheus”), he’ll play an updated model of the David android, named Walter. The actor recently revealed to Entertainment Weekly a bit of what we can expect from Walter, and how he’s similar to a rather famous “Star Trek” character.
"I wanted Walter to be more Spock-like -- devoid of human characteristics or emotional contents that are programmed into David,” Fassbender said of the differences between David and Walter. "I want him more like a blank canvas one can project things upon."
This take on the android is a clear switch from how Fassbender played David in "Prometheus." In that film, David had a bit more humanity to him ,and towards the end of the film was shown to be concerned with things like pride, ambition, and greed.
It seems like as the androids advance technologically, they also lost some of the humanity that the earlier versions had. How this will play into the upcoming “Alien: Covenant” is unknown, but fans won’t have to wait long -- the film, directed (like "Alien" and "Prometheus") by Ridley Scott, opens in theaters on May 19.
