Ahead of Sunday's full trailer, a cryptic teaser has arrived for director Ridley Scott's "Alien: Covenant."

Just 15 seconds long, the footage depicts a hauntingly familiar extraterrestrial, which slowly begins to open, accompanied by unnerving -- and decidedly (ahem) alien -- sounds. Presumably we'll get a glimpse at what's inside for Christmas.

The sequel to 2012's "Prometheus," and a prequel to 1979's "Alien," "Covenant" follows the crew of a colony ship headed to what they believe is an uncharted paradise. However, what they discover is a dark, dangerous world.

The trailer tease arrives on the heels of a poster, and new images from the film of Katherine Waterston’s gun-toting character, Michael Fassbender's David, and a group of soldiers.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Scott said that "Covenant" will answer a lot questions for those viewers who found "Prometheus" confusing. "'Covenant' is really going to show you who did it and why," he said.

Opening May 19, 2017, "Alien: Covenant" stars Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace and Guy Pearce, who reprise their roles from "Prometheus," joined by newcomers Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Billy Crudup and James Franco.
