Cobra Kai actor Alicia Hannah-Kim said she would love to play a role in a future season of Squid Game, even if it meant her character in the Korean drama series was killed off.

Hannah-Kim, who plays the new sensei Kim Da-Eun in Netflix's The Karate Kid sequel series, was asked in an interview with Deadline if she would accept a part in Squid Game if given the opportunity. "Are you kidding me? In a heartbeat," she responded. "I would compete in a real-life Squid Game for the chance to die in the series. God, I don't think I've ever been so stressed watching a show. It was brilliant. Just brilliant. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Director Hwang Dong-hyuk cooks up for Season 2."

Promising Opportunities for Cobra Kai's New Sensei

The Australian actor, who is of Korean descent, continued by discussing her desire to work on Korean projects beyond just Squid Game. "It's really my dream right now to work on something in Korea," Hannah-Kim revealed. "The artistic excellence there is off the charts, I'm pitching a docuseries on it and there's also a film I'm developing that's in English and Korean."

The massive success of Squid Game, which premiered internationally on Netflix in September 2021, is another example of the growing worldwide recognition of South Korean media in recent years. Hwang's survival-thriller phenomenon became the first non-English language series to be nominated for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series, and star Lee Jung-jae is also the first actor from Asia to win for Lead Actor in a Drama series. This success has led Netflix to greenlight multiple future Squid Game projects, including a reality show based on the competitions depicted in the show titled Squid Game: The Challenge.

Based on The Karate Kid film series created by Robert Mark Kamen, Cobra Kai is set over three decades following the events of the original 1984 film and features several characters who originally appeared in the films. The series, which was originally released on YouTube Premium before moving to Netflix starting with its third season, has received critical acclaim over its five seasons. Despite the success, Netflix has yet to officially announce a sixth season of Cobra Kai as of this writing. "We're still working all that out with Sony and Netflix, and we don't have an official Season 6 to announce yet," series co-creator Jon Hurwitz said recently regarding the show's future. "What we can say is that we're constantly thinking about these characters."

Cobra Kai and Squid Game are both available to stream on Netflix.
