Mia Maestro has a thing for vampires. After starring as Carmen in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and Part 2, she has signed on to stop the spread of the undead on FX's The Strain. Deadline reports the actress, who also spent a few seasons on Alias and appeared in Poseidon, Savages and The Box, will play the female lead in the series, should it get picked up.
Maestro joins House of Cards' Corey Stoll and Lost's Kevin Durand in the adaptation of a trilogy of novels written by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. Del Toro and Hogan co-wrote the pilot, which del Toro plans to direct. Lost and Bates Motel producer Carlton Cuse will serve as showrunner.
The story revolves around Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll) as he and his team discover a rapidly spreading plague that looks an awful lot like vampirism. Maestro plays fellow Center for Disease Control biochemist Dr. Nora Martinez.
FX has ordered the pilot, which will potentially lead into a 13-episode series.
