Alfonso Cuarón Offered 'The Shining' Prequel

Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón is a director in demand, particularly by Warner Bros. Only days after a report surfaced that the Gravity filmmaker is in talks to helm the studio's Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, another arrives contending he's being courted for the prequel to Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 adaptation of The Shining.

According to Schmoes Know, Cuarón is Warner Bros.' top choice to direct The Overlook Hotel, written by former Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara.

The story has been kept tightly under wraps, but Stephen King's original novel is packed with hotel history, so there's plenty to draw from there including the previous caretaker Delbert Grady and his creepy twin daughters.
