While comic fans know that painter Alex Ross is a fan of all things mid-century superhero, the acclaimed artist is also quite the music buff. And now his love of rock history is showing up on a major stage.
Legendary record label Apple Records recently commissioned Ross to paint images of the Fab Four themselves with a series of images he’s aptly titled “John, Paul, George and Ringo.” The paintings will be released this spring in a “Yellow Submarine”-themed box set. CBR got a look at all four paintings of John, Paul, George and Ringo before the label and the artist is set to unveil the final product at the Beatles Shop a tthe Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas on April 30.
“For as long as I can remember hearing music, I have loved the Beatles,” Ross said in a statement. “Not only do I believe they are the greatest musical group of all time, but also one of the greatest things to have happened in human history. ‘Yellow Submarine’ has also been one of my favorite films since I was six years old. The opportunity to work with the Beatles’ likenesses in the very inspired context of the ‘Yellow Submarine’ film is an absolute dream come true. There is so much I love about these men, their legacy and this film.”
The paintings follow Ross’ work on a poster based on the band’s animated 1968 animated film, this time giving a solo spotlight to each Beatle as they appeared during the era of the “Rubber Soul” album just before they broke new psychedelic ground with their music.
