DC cover artist Francesco Mattina has found himself under fire from fellow artist Alex Garner, who has accused Mattina of swiping his artwork and re-purposing it for his own gain.

On Twitter, Garner pointed out a variant cover Mattina had done for The Flash, claiming that it looked very similar to a piece he did featuring the Marvel Comics character Nova. "Francesco Mattina is known to have ripped off artists for years and yet editors consistently reward him with plum cover assignments," Garner wrote. "Normally I don't go public with this sort of thing but I'm fed up with it."

This is not the first time Mattina has been accused of swiping artwork from others. In 2017, artist Lee JeeHyung posted a series of images claiming that Mattina had copied an image he drew of Mary Jane Watson and repurposed it as an exclusive cover for Venom #150, to be sold at Orlando Megacon. Artist Walter O'Neill has also claimed that Mattina took a image he drew of the Punisher and repurposed it as a variant cover for The Batman Who Laughs: The Grim Knight #1.

Mattina has not responded to these allegations.
