Alan Wake, the beloved third-person horror game from Remedy Entertainment, is being remastered and will launch in the near future.

The 2012 psychological horror game is returning with spruced-up visuals, enhanced graphics and some extra bells and whistles. The game was announced via a blog post on fansite The Sudden Stop, penned by the game's director Sam Lake, who writes, "Alan Wake Remastered is the original experience you fell in love with all those years ago. We did not want to change that. But the visuals all around, including the character model of Alan Wake himself and the cinematics, have been updated and improved with some choice next-generation upgrades." The game will also reportedly feature a director's commentary track from Lake himself.

Lake also confirmed that the game will be coming to multiple platforms when it launches. Fans will be able to pick up Alan Wake Remastered on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC via the Epic Games Store. This marks the first time Remedy Entertainment's game about a writer at the end of his tether will be available on PlayStation hardware, as the game was originally exclusive to Microsoft platforms.

"This is for you. Alan Wake came out over 11 years ago, and through that time, you have told us again and again how much you love the game, the story, the characters, and the lore," writes Lake. "And that matters a lot to us. We love this game as well. I love this game. The remaster is coming because of your support for Alan Wake through the years."

Lake also talks more about the development of Alan Wake, describing the project as something very close to his heart. "This story and character were personal in many ways. Alan Wake, being a writer himself, gave me an opportunity to use what I do and love as a writer as an element in the story," notes Lake. "Alan Wake also contained the mystery of forests and lakes, which are precious to me as a Finn. And, instead of a focused one-note horror fare, it was this strange, even wasteful mix of horror, humor and supernatural mystery."

Beyond the overhauled visuals and platforms, Lake didn't share much more information on Alan Wake Remastered. Fans can expect the game to launch this fall, but a specific release date has yet to be revealed.
