Here's something you probably didn't know: Scarface was pretty into Archie Comics back in the day.

Movie star Al Pacino -- best known for his roles in such classic, gritty crime dramas as Dog Day Afternoon, The Godfather and Scarface -- recently revealed that he had a strong affinity for Archie Andrews and the rest of the Riverdale gang in his younger years, going as far as to describe himself as an Archie "fanatic."

Pacino currently stars on the Amazon Prime Video original series Hunters, which takes inspiration from superhero culture. During an interview with USA Today, the 79-year-old actor was asked which comic book or superhero was his favorite. "That's a question no one has ever asked me, but I remember Archie Comics," he replied. "I liked them."

Pacino explains that his love for Archie Comics comes from his love for the peaceful setting of Riverdale itself. (This was decades before The CW's Riverdale hit the airwaves.) "It was so interesting, coming from the South Bronx," he said. "I thought, 'Wow, people actually live on streets that had houses and trees.' So, I enjoyed Archie Comics a lot. I was a real fanatic."

As Pacino tells it, he was so enthralled by Archie and the gang's adventures that he wouldn't just read them; he would play-act certain scenes from the comics with his friends. "I liked it so much that I would get some of my friends together and I'd say, 'Let's do a section of the comic book together,'" Pacino shared. "We'd act out different points. We were always [doing] play-acting games."

While the man who would become famous for the role of soldier-turned-drug lord Tony Montana does not remember which Archie Comics character he played during this game, he does recall it being a challenge to get his friends to agree to play along. "To get my friends to do it was really tough," Pacino said. "They would say, 'What? No!' I would say, 'Just try it. Just try it.' Wow, that's so strange."
