Official Press Release
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. (October 23, 2001) Publisher Larry Young announcedtoday that his publishing house has signed an exclusive book tradedistribution deal with LPC Group. The two-year old San Franciscopublishing company has joined LPC Group's roster of graphic novelpublishers, which includes Dark Horse, Image, and Oni Press.
"The vision we've had for the company has always been a 'what's thenext-level?' sort of growth path," said Young. "And contracting arespected distributor to the book trade has always been part of theplan. Working with LPC Group is definitely one of those next-levelthings for us."
Co-publisher Mimi Rosenheim agreed. "We'd been taking some cautionarysteps towards fulfilling book trade orders ourselves, but it was obviousthat as we continued our aggressive marketing strategies that real-worldawareness of our line was starting to outstrip our ability to physicallymeet demand. I started doing research into book-trade distributors toapproach with our line and LPC Group's name kept coming up as anindustry leader."
AiT/Planet Lar has previously sold into the book trade by workingdirectly with a small number of independent shops, moving books toonline booksellers, and continuing with regional chain store buyerswhose relationships had been developed in the short two years AiT/PlanetLar has been publishing. "We've been moving books through Amazon.com,and through library outreaches, but LPC will give us visibility at booktrade events, and I tell you, I just couldn't be happier about gainingthis larger audience for the books we publish," said Young.
The president of LPC Group, David Wilk, said, "We're delighted to haveAiT/Planet Lar on board with LPC Group. They have some of the keyfeatures we look for in a publisher -- a growth-oriented publishingplan, aggressive promotion and marketing, and a killer backlist."
AiT/Planet Lar is expecting this deal to expand the company's presencefurther into the book trade while, at the same time, maintain itsestablished and valued specialty store sales through domesticdistributors Diamond Comic Distributors, Cold Cut Comics, and FMInternational, as well as with the UK distributor Red RouteDistribution.
