Official Press Release
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. (July 8, 2005) Publisher Larry Young announced today
that his publishing house, AiT/Planet Lar, will finally collect the
acclaimed limited series DEMO this December.
“One of our mantras which inspire us around the office is ‘Not What You
Want, But What You Need.’ That is, we’re not going to make any headway
towards Making Comics Better if we produce the same old thing that the
comics audience wants. We produce the entertainments that widen the
audience, you know? Not what they want, but what they don’t know they
need, yet. And that’s where the initial monthly DEMO came from,” said
Young. “But an interesting thing happened with the project; the vocal
fanbase that Brian and Becky had for the book amongst savvy retailers and
readers were able to convince me that a collected DEMO was something that
they needed. And we’re all too happy to give the people what they need.”
Artist Becky Cloonan is psyched: “Collecting DEMO into a trade is like
perfect binding seventeen months of my life together. It documents the
progression and evolution of my art and thought process; to me that is a
very personal and amazing thing. It’s the largest and most important body
of work I’ve helped to create, not only because of the comic itself but
the people who helped make it, and those I met along the way.”
“Personally, DEMO remains one of my most important and treasured projects,
one that will continue to influence and impact everything else I do in the
future,” said writer Brian Wood. “It represents a massive leap forward
for me, creatively and conceptually.”
The collected DEMO will be available in December for the holidays and
weigh in at 280 pages and will retail for $19.95. If you’re coming to the
big San Diego convention, come see Brian and Becky at the AiT/Planet Lar
booth #2001 on Friday and Saturday of the show.
