Natashia Liu Bordizzo spoke about her impression of the Mandalorian character Sabine Wren, whom she is set to portray in Disney+'s upcoming Star Wars limited series Ahsoka.

In an interview with Empire magazine, Bordizzo shared her thoughts on the evolution of Sabine's character throughout the franchise. "Sabine is so fearless and brave, with so much grace, but she still has flaws," Bordizzo said. "She's not perfect, she's on her journey, she's making mistakes. And it's very high stakes in this galactic war, to make mistakes."

A Mandalorian's Journey

Sabine Wren made her debut in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. She was a Mandalorian warrior who took up arms against the Empire after she discovered her inventions were being used to oppress her people, and eventually wound up serving in the crew of the starship Ghost under its Twi'lek captain Hera Syndulla. Aside from her skill with a variety of weapons, Sabine was also an avid graffiti artist, whose signature Wren Phoenix crest went on to inspire the flag of the Rebel Alliance. After the Empire's downfall, Sabine embarked on a quest to find her companion Ezra Bridger, who sacrificed himself to teleport Grand Admiral Thrawn and his flagship into the Unknown Regions during the finale of Rebels.

During Star Wars Celebration, Bordizzo and co-star Rosario Dawson, who plays the titular Ahsoka Tano, were asked if they watched the previous animated Star Wars series to prepare themselves for their roles. "Over and over and over again. Yes," Dawson answered. She also revealed she wanted to recreate Ahsoka's feats from the animated shows, and although she was told by the stunt coordinator that it was impossible to imitate Ahsoka's movements in live action, she still expressed her appreciation for the experience. Regarding the Star Wars franchise, Dawson said, "Thank goodness for all that research and history we get to play off of."

Director Dave Filoni previously revealed he already planned Ahsoka and Luke Skywalker's first meeting but was still unsure of where to fit the scene. "Yeah, I have a whole story about [Luke and Ahsoka's meeting] that I devised many years ago actually," he said. "I had to put that tile in place to do what I'm doing now and understand it. I haven't found a way to tell that story yet. I told a piece of it afterward, but yeah, we'll see. You'd love it, it's a great story."

Ahsoka is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
