The following contains spoilers for Episode 5 of Aharen-San Is Indecipherable, "Isn't That a Little Too Heavy?", now streaming on Crunchyroll.

Aharen-San Is Indecipherable is a charming rom-com anime starring the quiet kuudere student Aharen Reina, who can't easily express herself with spoken words. However, she can express her warm feelings through other means, ranging from freestyle rap music to gaming, and that now extends to the world of cleaning as well.

Aharen has already proved herself a quirky and goofy person who can amuse friends and viewers alike with her visual gags, and in Episode 5 her quirky side becomes more heartfelt and exciting than ever. A routine chore like cleaning the classroom after school becomes a heart-pounding moment of true love, even if "I love you" is still far away for now. Aharen and Raido have finally figured out their love language.

In Episode 5 of Aharen-San Is Indecipherable, Aharen continues expressing her best character trait: boundless generosity. She makes up for her lack of verbal communication with countless acts of kindness and support for others -- such as feeding them meatballs at lunch or giving them plushes from the arcade claw game -- and now she and Raido are hitting the books together.

Aharen, who gets better grades than her friend does, agrees to help Raido study without asking for anything in return. Along with her goofiness, she's also a fine student and a great study partner, which helps round out her character a bit more. She's more than a silent class clown.

They clean up the classroom after school, Aharen arriving with an armload of cleaning supplies to show how enthusiastic she is about a hard day's work. She can be surprisingly durable and energetic when acting on someone else's behalf, and the same is true in Episode 5. She even tries to move a heavy bookshelf but it topples over, and it's up to Raido to catch the falling furniture and keep his friend safe. Feeling overwhelmed with gratitude, she embraces him warmly for the first time. Aharen may be whisper-quiet, but she's not a meek dandere -- she knows what she wants and what it means to her.

When two people get together and fall in love, they express their mutual affection not only through words, but also the five "love languages," and that's what Aharen does in Episode 5. She is far from actually telling Raido "I love you" and vice versa, but by her standards, open gratitude and a warm hug are a big step in that direction. A kiss on the cheek would have fit this scene well too, but it didn't happen this time. Aharen instead uses three other love languages, and they combine to make this episode special.

Aharen uses the physical touch love language to express her feelings, such as wrapping her arms around Raido's own while walking down the street and hugging him tightly as thanks for always looking out for her. Her many favors for him constitute the "acts of service" love language, such as studying and cleaning the classroom together. Finally, her gifts to Raido perfectly fit the "receiving gifts" love language from the latter's point of view.

Overall, Aharen-San Is Indecipherable is too tame and focuses too much on the comedy half of rom-com to make a full-blown "I love you" likely, but it doesn't even need that. Love and affection can be expressed in many other ways, and Aharen's earnest use of the love languages is sufficient for her and Raido's needs. It all fits her kuudere character perfectly, and Aharen-San fans can expect more of this behavior in future episodes as well.
