Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Ming-Na Wen has reported for duty for Season 7. Known to S.H.I.E.L.D. fans as Agent Melinda May, Wen announced her return with an Instagram post.

"Season 7!! My first day back for S7 of [Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.]," she wrote. "Passed my physical (of course!) and tried on some new outfits. Love being back on SHIELD campus. So fun to see the fam. Let’s get this party started!!!"

Having wrapped Season 6 filming in December, Wen seems thrilled to be back for Season 7, and she probably isn't the only one. In a recent interview, Phil Coulson actor Clark Gregg admitted he thought the show would end with Season 5. "We had this really wonderful end of season five -- the [season finale] episode was even called 'The End' -- and we had reason to believe that we were done," he said. His character was killed off in that very episode, though he will return in a mysterious new role for Season 6.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. wasn't renewed for a sixth season until May 2018, just before the Season 5 finale aired and after weeks of cancellation rumors. The series would be picked up for Season 7 just a few months later, while Season 6 was still in production.

Seeing as Season 6 won't air until this summer, Season 7's plot is obviously still a mystery. However, Mockingbird actor Adrianne Palicki, who is currently on Fox's The Orville, has expressed interest in returning.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to return for its sixth season in May 2019 on ABC with 13 new episodes. The series stars Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Henry Simmons, Iain De Caestecker, Natalia Cordova-Buckley and Elizabeth Henstridge. Additionally, The Breakfast Club alum Anthony Michael Hall is expected to appear in the upcoming season.
