Avengers: Endgame won't be the only Marvel property making a time jump. The next season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will take place one year after the Season 5 finale.

According to TVLine, a year has passed since the team dropped Coulson off in Tahiti when Season 6 picks up. Elizabeth Henstridge, who portrays Jemma Simmons, revealed much of the sixth season will be about the search for Fitz. She also teased that Season 6 will be "a departure from other stuff we've done," which is no surprise, since Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has reinvented itself almost every season since its debut.

Coulson actor Clark Gregg previously admitted that most of the cast believed Season 5 would mark the end of the series, saying the finale of that season -- with Agent Coulson going to Tahiti to live out the rest of his life -- was a "wonderful end" to the story told on the show. However, there will now be two more shortened seasons, with the first premiering this summer. Gregg seemed excited, saying that they are "throwing out all the rules and taking risks" this season.

As the recent trailer showed, Clark Gregg's Phil Coulson died after the team dropped him off in Tahiti. Now, Season 6 will find the team engaging with new missions under Director Alphonso "Mack"Mackenzie (Henry Simmons) before heading into space in search of Fitz (Iain De Caestecker).

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to return for its sixth season in July 2019 on ABC with 13 new episodes. The series stars Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Henry Simmons, Iain De Caestecker, Natalia Cordova-Buckley and Elizabeth Henstridge.
