The Season 5 finale of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will air Friday, May 18 on ABC.

The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season finale will follow the series finale of Once Upon a Time, which has an extended run time of one hour and one minute. As such, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s will be slightly delayed, beginning at 9:01 pm.

At the time of writing, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s renewal status is up in the air. A recent rumor suggests that the Marvel series will indeed return for a sixth season; further, the show will reportedly move from Friday back to its original Tuesday night time slot. However, there have been no official announcements from ABC regarding Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s return.

Regardless of a renewal, the show's Season 5 finale has been written as a series ending. "We’re ready for if this is the end,” executive producer Jed Whedon revealed in February. “We’re definitely going to make it rewarding either way.” Executive producer Maurisa Tancharoen added that the finale could serve as “either” a suitable capper for the season or the entire series.

If the show does get renewed, the minds behind Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have plenty of ideas for Season 6 -- and that's thanks in part to Avengers: Infinity War. “The thing that we love about what our show has become is, the movies sort of blaze a path. Doctor Strange introduced magic, all of a sudden we could have Ghost Rider on our show. We’re just waiting for that movie to come out, so it can open up a whole new playground for us,” Whedon teased last month.

Airing Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Henry Simmons, Ian De Caestecker, Natalia Cordova-Buckley and Elizabeth Henstridge.
