Lord of the Rings alum Craig Parker has joined Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Parker will play Taryan, who TVLine describes as "a formidable wheeler-dealer from another planet." He is slated to appear in the later episodes of Season 5.

Since Season 5 kicked off, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has undergone something of an alien invasion. Phil Coulson and his team were flung into the future in the first arc of the series, where they discovered the Earth had been destroyed. Stranded in the year 2091, they were forced to integrate themselves into the last dregs of humanity, who were overruled by the tyrannical Kree. They have since returned to the present in order to try and prevent the end of the world.

It is unclear at this time if Parker's Taryan will be Kree, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe is home to several different species of alien. However, seeing as Coulson and his team discovered an active Kree beacon in "All the Comforts of Home," it seems like a good possibility.

Parker played Haldir in the first two Lord of the Rings films, then Gothmog in the third. He is also known for his roles in Underworld: Rise of the Lycans and Mercy Peak. His past credits include Reign, Legend of the Seeker, Sleepy Hollow, Spartacus: War of the Damned and more.

Airing Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Henry Simmons, Ian De Caestecker, Natalia Cordova-Buckley and Elizabeth Henstridge.
