By the time Comic-Con International in San Diego rolled around, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 4 had only just kicked off production -- but that didn't stop Ming-Na Wen (Agent Melinda May) and Iain De Caestecker (Agent Leo Fitz) from coming by. Speaking with CBR's Kiel Phegley, they discussed the evolution of FitzSimmons' relationship, as well as their hopes and dreams for the upcoming season.

"We don't get the script until we get the script," Wen explained. "They don't tell us anything, so we're as surprised as the audience when they watch the show... in that sense, it's a different way of approaching the material, because you don't have any preset ideas about where the character's going to go."

"But at the same time, yeah, I have certain hopes and dreams that certain Marvel superheroes will show up on our show," she said. When De Caestecker asked who she was referring to, she added, "Chris Hemsworth."

Asked about the development of FitzSimmons, De Caestecker shared, "In terms of that, we really didn't find out until that week. The evolution of it seems quite natural, and it seems like what would happen next. The 'will they, won't they' thing has been going on for quite a while."

"But it is bizarre, because we're -- me and Elizabeth [Henstridge], we're really good friends," he continued. "She's kind of like a sister... so at the same time, it was bizarre, but we both like the idea of these two characters getting together, but doing it."

"Did you know that there was actually a comic book where Fitz was asking May out for a date and May actually said yes?" Wen asked, referring to Marc Guggenheim and German Peralta's "Agents of S.H.I.E.l.D." comic series. "It was the craziest, craziest thing! I want that. I want it to happen. Just to make Iain super uncomfortable!"

Starring Clark Gregg, Chloe Bennet and Ming-Na Wen, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" returns Tuesday, September 20 at 10 pm EST on ABC.
