Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) has more to worry about than simply Hydra or Grant Ward (Brett Dalton). Two of his most trusted agents -- Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki) and Mac (Henry Simmons) -- have been plotting his downfall.

The two were recruited by Agent Robert Gonzales (Edward James Olmos), who disagrees with Coulson's secretive approach to running S.H.I.E.L.D. Gonzales plans to lead a new S.H.I.E.L.D., one that is forthright in its information and missions. So far, they've only been gathering intel and building a case against Coulson -- but that's all about to change.

Edward James Olmos Arrives in Print "Agents of SHIELD" Ad

Ahead of tonight's new episode, "One Door Closes," Olmos spoke with CBR News about opposing Coulson, Bobbi's dilemma and targeting Skye (Chloe Bennet). In addition, Olmos hinted at "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s" connection to the forthcoming blockbuster, "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

CBR News: At this point, Robert Gonzales is still a man of mystery. Who is he and how much are we going to learn about what motivates him?

Edward James Olmos: He's courageous. He is very handsome. He was very fast and a jogger. You are going to learn a lot about him in the coming episodes. You are going to like him a lot. And when he smiles, you know what happens, right? The whole world smiles with him.

What kind of history does he share with Coulson?

I'm not going to tell. You have to watch because it's coming up. You are going to find out a lot. You're going to love where it's going. It's unbelievably complex. You're going to be saying, "I don't know. I like both Gonzales and Coulson."

How do Gonzales and Coulson's philosophies about S.H.I.E.L.D. differ from each other?

Gonzales tells them, "Listen, the burden that we have to carry because we are S.H.I.E.L.D. -- meaning all S.H.I.E.L.D., whether they be Fury, Coulson or myself -- has to be transparent." It has to be because the power is too much. You give that kind of power to one person and you are in trouble. That's what happened with Fury. One guy was running everything. He went up against the World Council.

At the same time, we're there to protect the public from these advanced-powered people. All I can tell you is it's very clearly stated in that scene from last week, that the differences are Coulson leans more toward where Fury comes from. I have to discuss my feelings and ideas with my team. Everybody sitting at that table has the same amount of say-so to what is going to happen. That's the difference. You never saw a team around Fury and you never saw a team around Coulson. You saw the council that dominated Fury.

Olmos Talks "Agents of SHIELD," Teases His Mysterious Role

Agent Calderon doubted Bobbi's loyalties. Does Gonzales trust her? How would you describe their working relationship?

It's excellent. It's very difficult for Bobbie. Bobbi loves Coulson, but she understands that what I'm doing needs to be done. She finds herself torn, just like Mac. Mac loves Coulson. They appreciate what they've been able to accomplish under him, but that was during the time of Fury.

It's interesting because I'm anxious to see the Avengers movie. On the billboards, they talk about the "Age of Ultron." Whoa. Whoa. Do you know anything about that?

Not yet.

You're going to soon.

What are Gonzales' views concerning Skye and her emerging powers?

We have to take care of the public. And what are we taking care of the public from? Is Skye a threat or isn't she? We have to find out.

Right now, Gonzales seems focused on taking Coulson down. What exactly does that entail? Does he simply want to dissolve the other team, recruit its members, or lock them up?

All I can answer to that is you won't believe it when it happens. What is going to happen is unpredictable. You're going to say, "I love this show even more. Thanks a lot."

"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." airs Tuesdays at 9pm on ABC.
