Marvel has announced that actress Natalia Cordova-Buckley, who plays the fan-favorite Inhuman, has been promoted series regular for the upcoming fifth season of the ABC drama.

"Natalia is a powerhouse in her work and in her daily life, and she has imbued one of our favorite characters with her natural strength and humor," executive producers Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, and Jeffrey Bell said in a joint statement. "Natalia was instantly a part of the S.H.I.E.L.D. family the first day she walked onto set, and we’re happy she’s now an official member of the S.H.I.E.L.D. team."

Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez first debuted in the 11th episode of Season 3, when the series began to introduce new Inhuman characters following the Terrigenesis outbreak. Yo-Yo's Inhuman ability grants her bursts of superhuman speed during the span of a heartbeat, but with the catch that she returns to the original spot where she initiates her powers.

Cordova-Buckley's promotion was the natural next step in her character's progression, particularly after ABC elected to give Yo-Yo her own six-part webseries during the Season 4's midseason break, titled Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return this winter to ABC following the conclusion of Inhumans. The series stars Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Chloe Bennet as Daisy “Quake” Johnson, Ming-Na Wen as Melinda May, Iain De Caestecker as Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Jemma Simmons, and Henry Simmons as Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie.
