During Agents of SHIELD's seven-season run, many characters, both original and from the comics, made an impact on the story in some way. Some highlights include Robbie Reyes/ Ghost Rider and the Inhuman, Lincoln. While some of these allies only join for a short time, others remain with the show for much longer and make sizable impressions on the show's viewers. One example of this is the spy duo of Bobbi Morse/Mockingbird and Lance Hunter. But why, after being such fan-favorites, did the duo leave SHIELD?

Hunter initially joined SHIELD as a mercenary, but after Hydra took over, he eventually joined their ranks as an ally. He was an ex-British Special Forces member and often had a snarky attitude or one-liner at the least appropriate time. Bobbi Morse is a character who was initially introduced in the comics, and in Agents of SHIELD, she was sent in on orders from Nick Fury to infiltrate Hydra and gain intelligence. Eventually, Morse's cover was blown and she ended up working with Coulson's team as they represented the last of SHIELD.

Hunter and Morse were once married, and while they were divorced, their chemistry never faded away. The two often bickered and looked out for one another, and after months of working together, they rekindled their romance. Their rapport was often reminiscent of Morse's comic book romance with the archer, Hawkeye.

Towards the midway point of Agents of SHIELD's third season, Morse and Hunter were apprehended by Interpol and accused of killing a Russian officer. Though the two were innocent, Interpol used countless mind games on them and even had them use a polygraph. Ultimately, they didn't budge so that they could protect SHIELD. Eventually, Coulson managed to get into the facility and offered them a way to sneak out. However, Morse and Hunter chose to remain and be disavowed to protect SHIELD. As they left, they knew they could never go back to a spy's life, and while at a bar, planning their future on the run, each member of Coulson's team sent them a beer in a tradition Morse called a "spy's goodbye."

Marvel had planned to piggyback off their exit to release a spin-off titled Marvel's Most Wanted, a series which would focus on the two following their departure from SHIELD. But despite having filmed a pilot, as time went on, it seemed like interest began to waver, and ABC chose not to pick it up.

As time progressed, the actors also picked up more roles, with Morse's Adrianne Palicki joining the cast of The Orville and Hunter's Nick Blood working on shows like Euphoria. That being said, Blood later reprised his role as Hunter to help Fitz find his missing friends in Agents of SHIELD Season 5. While the duo wasn't shown again after their departure, fans could still enjoy a lengthy stint with them during the height of the series.
