Agents of SHIELD VFX Supervisor Won’t Be Involved With ABC’s Inhumans

The Inhumans will officially have their own series thanks to ABC and Marvel Television, but “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” VFX supervisor Mark Kolpack won’t be behind it. When asked by a fan whether or not he’ll be involved with the upcoming new series, Kolpack made it clear that he’ll be too busy working on “S.H.I.E.L.D.” to play with “Inhumans,” as intriguing as it sounds to him.

The Inhumans as a race are no strangers to Marvel Television. In Season 2 of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, Daisy “Quake” Johnson was revealed to be Inhuman through her mother’s side of the family. Since then, S.H.I.E.L.D. has battled rogue Inhuman factions in Afterlife and an ancient Inhuman called Hive, as well as prejudice from your average, everyday human being. As such, Kolpack has plenty of experience with the Inhumans, but it looks as though he won’t be lending a hand to the fledgling series.

Kolpack has been with “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” since the show’s pilot episode. In addition to the Inhumans, he has ushered Ghost Rider into the series. His team’s work has gone into Robbie Reyes’ fiery — and, at times, nauseating — transformation into the Spirit of Vengeance. Though it’s unclear if “S.H.I.E.L.D.” will return for a fifth season, he has intentions to stick around for it.

Originally announced as a film slated for a 2020 release, “Inhumans” — much like its comic book counterpart — has undergone quite a few changes in the intervening years, not the least of which is a transition from the big screen to the small screen. There will be a live-action Inhumans adaptation, but it will unfold on ABC rather than in a multiplex. (Well, sort of. The first two hours will debut in IMAX theaters before the remainder of the first season heads to television.)

Airing Tuesdays at 10 pm ET/PT on ABC, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” stars Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Chloe Bennet as Daisy “Quake” Johnson, Ming-Na Wen as Melinda May, Iain De Caestecker as Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Jemma Simmons, Henry Simmons as Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie and more. The “Inhumans” IMAX event will run in theaters for two weeks starting Labor Day 2017, and the series will debut on ABC as part of the network’s fall lineup for its eight-episode run.
