WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 7, Episode 3, "Alien Commies From the Future!"

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has embarked on its final season. With the Chronicoms set on destroying the secret organization and taking over Earth, the agents find themselves hopping through time to stop the Chronicoms and preserve S.H.I.E.L.D. So far, they've visited the 1930s and '50s, leaving fans excited to see what era they'll visit next. Season 7 has already given fans some great fight scenes, cool cameos and fun time shenanigans, but it's also raised a lot of questions. Here are the biggest mysteries of Season 7 so far.

How Long Were Fitzsimmons And Enoch Gone?

At the end of Season 6, the Chronicoms attack S.H.I.E.L.D. Enoch tells Fitzsimmons that he had a plan to save it, but they would have to change the course of their lives forever. Later, Simmons arrives in time to save the team from the Chronicoms, and it's clear that a significant amount of time has passed for her. In fact, she is gone long enough for her and Fitz to figure out how to time travel, for them to update Zephyr One and for Simmons to build a machine to heal May's fatal wound. As Season 7 begins, she and Enoch both give vague answers when asked how long they had been away.

Before Season 7 aired, fans speculated that maybe this new Simmons could be an LMD. If Fitzsimmons figured out time travel, then it could've taken them a entire lifetime, so perhaps they created an LMD of Simmons to send back in time to the team. While this theory has gained some traction, last week's episode, "Alien Commies From the Future!" may have debunked it.

The end of the episode has Simmons activating an EMP to take out the Chronicoms, deactivating Coulson in the process. If Simmons was an LMD, this would have knocked her out as well. Audiences will have to wait until next week to know for sure, but it looks like Simmons is still human after all.

Assuming Simmons hasn't magically stopped aging, Fitzsimmons can't have been gone too long. Nevertheless, it could still have been a few years since they last saw the team. If this is the case, then it would fit another popular fan theory that Fitzsimmons had a child while they were away. There isn't much evidence to support this as Simmons doesn't show any signs of having been pregnant, and Fitz doesn't mention a child in his message, but there isn't much evidence to refute it either. In this case, Fitzsimmons would have been gone at least a year.

Where is Fitz?

Leopold Fitz from Agents of SHIELD Season 7

Fans have been wondering where Fitz is since the end of Season 6. When the team asks Simmons about it, she says that she doesn't and couldn't know. Despite Fitz controlling Zephyr One's destination and being in contact with Simmons, his location remains a mystery to everyone. This appears to be a tactical decision in their fight against the Chronicoms, who scan Fitzsimmons' brains and learn many of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s secrets. Wherever Fitz is, Simmons knows that he's safe from the Chronicoms.

Fans already know that part of the reason for his absence is that actor Iain De Caestecker, who portrays Fitz, was working on another project when filming started for Season 7. This isn't the first time De Caestecker has had to take a break from the show. Fitz was also absent from the first few episodes of Season 5 while he finished shooting a film. Just as they did then, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has worked around this.

Although fans haven't found any clues about Fitz's whereabouts, they still have some ideas about why he's in hiding. If Fitzsimmons did have a baby, as some have theorized, it makes sense that one of them would stay with their child while the other saves the team. This would also explain why Simmons is so determined that he stay hidden, even from herself.

What's Happening to May?

May was as good as dead after her fight with Izel and Pachakutiq, that is until Simmons and Enoch healed her body. Ever since May woke up, she's been different. Some speculate that May had been taken over by Izel, but this doesn't seem likely since the Shrike in Yo-Yo died with her. Others suggest that because she was healed using new and possibly Chronicom technology, May became part Chronicom. This has now been debunked since May isn't knocked out by the EMP at the end of last week's episode.

Despite the theories, there's a simpler explanation, which is May's trauma is catching up to her. Before she woke up, May has a nightmare where several hands are pulling her into darkness. This closely resembles May's visit to Izel's home, where she had to face off against several of her species to get back to Earth. Last week on S.H.I.E.L.D., May also appears to have a panic attack while on a mission, something she hasn't experienced before. May has suffered a lot over the years, but Season 6 could have pushed her to her breaking point. In usual May fashion, she is focusing on her job instead of dealing with the problem, which could explain her emotionless behavior.

Why Aren't Yo-Yo's Powers Working?

Elena Yo-Yo Rodriguez from Agents of SHIELD Season 7

Twice now, Yo-Yo has found herself unable to move when she tries to use her powers. They were working fine last season, and, according to Simmons, her new arms shouldn't be a hindrance. Yo-Yo herself suggests that maybe the Shrike messed with her system, and since no one else has survived it, this could be a side effect. Alternatively, it could be affecting her mentally rather than physically.

One of the last times Yo-Yo used her powers was right before she was infected. Since she wasn't able to use her powers to stop it, perhaps this experience has mentally blocked her from using her powers. Like May, Yo-Yo has been through a lot and hasn't had time to process everything. If this is the case, maybe her powers will return after she's has time to work on herself.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s final season airs Wednesdays at 10 pm ET/PT on ABC. The series stars Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Henry Simmons, Iain De Caestecker, Natalia Cordova-Buckley, Elizabeth Henstridge and Clark Gregg.
