In the new trailer for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6, a man who looks exactly like Phil Coulson has arrived on Earth to herald the death of everything.
Set to a moody cover of Linkin Park's "In the End," the trailer finds S.H.I.E.L.D.'s new director Alphonso "Mack" Mackenzie and his team in a state of mourning. Though Mack claims he will never be the director Coulson was, he is committed to the organization's mission to save lives.
The action starts when Agent Davis announces "a large, unidentified object" has entered Earth's atmosphere. From there, the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. leap into action, guns blazing. However, after a truck comes barrelling out of a whirling vortex, the team is in for the shock of their lives as a Phil Coulson doppelganger emerges and announces "the death of everything."
Judging by what is revealed in the trailer, this evil version of Coulson -- who calls himself Sarge -- and his team raze planets. "Wherever these people came from, I think they destroyed it," new character Doctor Marcus Benson tells Mack in a lab-like setting. Newcomer Izel (Karolina Wydra) confirms this to be the case, saying, "I know what he really is, and he won't stop until he eliminates the whole planet."
"I've been hunting your kind my entire life," Sarge reveals in an ominous voice-over. "There's no use hiding. We'll always find you."
A brief sequence shows Sarge throwing down with Mack on the quinjet. The trailer highlights the return of Deke, Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons' grandson from the future they averted in Season 5. Recurring characters Agent Davis and Agent Piper also appear to have gotten promoted, as both agents appear in much larger roles in the trailer.
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to return to ABC on Friday, May 10 at 8 pm ET/PT with 13 new episodes. The series stars Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Henry Simmons, Iain De Caestecker, Natalia Cordova-Buckley, Elizabeth Henstridge and Clark Gregg.
