Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are out of the pan and into the fire in the first clip from Season 5. The brief clip, released by IGN, finds Director Phil Coulson, Alphonso "Mack" McKenzie, Jemma Simmons and Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez desperately trying to outrun an agile alien creature.
The clip opens as Coulson, Mack, Simmons and Yo-Yo hurtle around a corner into a dark hallway. A blue and purple alien with ridges down its back then slams into the wall behind them.
"Go!" Yo-Yo urges them, turning and whipping out a massive gun. She lets off a few shots, which sends red-orange pulses down the hallway. However, the alien is able to dodge those bullets by running up the wall.
Even as Yo-Yo attempts to ward it off, Coulson and the others reach the end of the hallway. Coulson yells in frustration when he discovers the door at the end of the hall is locked. Out of bullets and out of time, the four agents turn to face what looks like inevitable doom, and the alien launches itself directly at the camera.
This is where the clip ends, but those in attendance at this past October's New York Comic Con know what happens next. (Beware of spoilers beyond this point!) Just as the alien leaps towards them, Daisy "Quake" Johnson appears and obliterates it with her Inhuman abilities. However, that's where the 20-minute sneak peek ended for New York Comic Con attendees.
A new poster for the upcoming series debuted alongside this extraterrestrial clip. Like the season, the poster is space-themed, with a smattering of stars overlaid on images of the core cast: Coulson, Quake, Yo-Yo, Melinda May, Leo Fitz, Simmons and Mack, who has his shotgun-ax slung over his shoulder. Below them looks to be some sort of asteroid belt, which crackles with a sort of blue plasma. The poster also confirms that Season 5 will launch with a two-hour premiere.
Premiering December 1 at 8 pm ET on ABC, the fifth season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Henry Simmons, Ian De Caestecker, Natalia Cordova-Buckley, Elizabeth Henstridge, Nick Blood, Jeff Ward, Eve Harlow, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Coy Stewart.
