Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. must escape the impossible in an extended trailer for Season 5, which is packed with alien action. Hailing from Entertainment Weekly, the new trailer offers a glimpse of footage not shown at this past New York Comic Con, including a handful of new Kree characters and a cult of "true believers" dedicated to Director Phil Coulson.
The trailer opens with May and two new characters wheeling a bloody body in a stretcher. She is then joined by another new character, Tess. When Eve Harlow was announced for the role, her character was described as "resourceful, striving to be self-sufficient in very desperate circumstances."
"Life is a fragile thing," a voiceover narrates over a shot of Kree soldiers marching down a hall. "You must cultivate the beauty, and prune back the rest."
Next, Pruitt Taylor Vince's Grill -- "a gruff taskmaster, lording over those under his command with an unforgiving temperament" -- activates a magnetic wall that rips weapons of Yo-Yo and Mack's hands and pins Coulson's prosthetic hand. Fortunately, May comes flying in, kicking Grill to the floor. A fight ensues.
"Agent Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D., you've come to save us," says another character, whose name was revealed as Virgil in the footage shown at NYCC. The trailer cuts to a shot of Daisy blasting a Kree soldier with her Inhuman powers, then back to Coulson. When Coulson asks who he is, Virgil responds, "I'm one of the True Believers." Coulson follows up with, "Believers in what?" to which Virgil smiles and says, "You."
The rest of the trailer retreads previous footage shown to promote the upcoming fifth Season, including the alien chase scene. The tail end of the trailer shows some new footage of May piloting a spaceship through an asteroid field with Simmons in the passenger seat.
"It's a lot of pressure to carry the fate of humanity on your shoulders," Coulson tells May in a cutaway scene.
In the footage, almost every member of Coulson's team is accounted for. However, there's one notable exception: Fitz. In the promotional material so far, Fitz has been notably absent. If you're curious to know where he is, check out CBR's description of the NYCC footage, which revealed his whereabouts.
