Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D returns for one final season, and it's taking the chance to bring back a lot of classic actors and roles from across the history of the show. CBR can now reveal that Patton Oswalt will be returning to Agents of SHIELD for the upcoming final season of the series, potentially having a tie to his multiple characters from the rest of the show.

The seventh and final season will focus on the LMD copy of Coulson and his Agents of SHIELD being blasted back in time to the 1930s. There, they'll have to figure out how to return to the present while also doing their best to preserve the timeline - even if it means they have to work towards certain unavoidable events, such as the creation of HYDRA. This time jump means there's plenty of opportunity for the producers behind the show to reveal more about the overarching history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in this period before the events of Captain America: The First Avenger, and it looks like that might tie in to a major guest role coming to the show.

Oswalt has appeared as multiple members of the Koenig family, including the brothers Eric, Billy, Sam and Thurston. Often times they're joked to be a collective of LMDs, but it's eventually revealed that the Koenig family helped develop the LMDs and instead are actually a family of loyal SHIELD Agents. He first appeared as Eric, a trusted ally to Nick Fury and Phil Coulson. He provided shelter to Coulson and his team, but he was killed by Grant Ward, and his death revealed Ward's true allegiance to HYDRA over his former allies.

Eric's brother Billy had been fulfilling a similar mission at another of Fury's hidden bases, and, alongside their other brother Billy, became a recurring ally for Coulson and his team along with Sam. Oswalt also later appeared as Thurston, the fourth brother who'd gone against the family path and became a slam poet, but he reluctantly helps SHIELD during the fourth season.

Oswalt will appear in an early episode of the final season. It's unknown exactly what role Oswalt will be playing, but given the time-spanning events of the upcoming season of Agents of SHIELD, it's likely that he'll be playing a member of the Koenig family, potentially even the first member of the family to join SHIELD, setting up his eventual other roles in the show.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. stars Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Henry Simmons, Iain De Caestecker, Natalia Cordova-Buckley, Elizabeth Henstridge and Clark Gregg. Season 7 premieres Wednesday, May 27 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
