SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "Past Life," the latest episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. just took their one and only shot at returning to their proper timeline. In "Past Life," the latest episode, Coulson and his team made a last-ditch effort to make it home. However, the episode never showed whether the time-displaced agents made it through the monolith.

"Past Life" brought all of the agents' actions to a tipping point. After fighting tooth and nail and destroying several Kree soliders, they made it to Kasius' quarters, where Flint was able to use his Inhuman powers to reconstruct the monolith. Thanks to a machine Fitz and Simmons built in the past, they also had a way to activate it. However, because the machine had been damaged, it would trigger an explosion that destroyed several levels of the Lighthouse -- including the one where the monolith stood. As such, they only got one shot to return home.

As the episode hurtled towards its conclusion, the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents ran out of time. They had to activate the monolith, even though half the team was missing. When the monolith activated, it looked as though only Coulson, Daisy, May and Fitz were present.

Earlier on, Yo-Yo had gone looking for Kasius' seer. As time began to ran out, Mack and Simmons went to find her, but got distracted when Kasius attacked them. In their final scene of the episode, they are seen running down a Lighthouse hallway to rejoin their friends. It is unclear if they made it in time.

Earlier in the episode, the future version of Yo-Yo implied that they did make it home: "We make it back in time, but then we bring everything that’s to come." However, this could also be where Mack dies, as she also said, "I was on fire, reaching for Mack, and then there was nothing there."

One member of the team didn't want to go back to the past at all: Daisy "Quake" Johnson. "I'm not coming," she told Coulson. "Look around. Billions of people gone. There's a chance I'm the cause. I can't go." When May pointed out she didn't have her powers, Daisy continued, "It's only a matter of time. If there's an emergency or one of you is in danger, I will need them, and we will find away. If I go through that portal, you know it's the beginning of the end."

When reasoning with her didn't work, Coulson took drastic measures. "I need you to lead," he said and iced her, knocking her out. He then carried her to the monolith himself, where she appeared to be sent through with her teammates.
