While Agent Carter has been off the air since 2016, fans have been holding out hope for a revival for a third season ever since.

Jose Molina, who wrote episodes for both seasons of the ABC series, revealed what was originally planned if the MCU tie-in was renewed by the network for a third season. Molina hinted that the show would've upped the stakes of the show's Cold War espionage intrigue with the action moving overseas.

"The initial thrust was going to come from the investigation into the assassination attempt on Jack Thompson," explained Molina in an interview with Den of Geek. "We were hoping (assuming we could afford it) that the story would then lead us to London, where we would learn that Peggy’s late brother Michael was not only alive and kicking but involved in some very nefarious, super-villainous shenanigans."

Thompson, played by Chad Michael Murray, was promoted to director of the Strategic Science Reserve (SRR), a precursor to SHIELD, in the series' second season. In the series finale, Thompson is shot by a mysterious assailant who then steals a dossier on Peggy Carter.

While fans never received closure to the series' cliffhanger finale, it sounds like Thompson may have survived the attempt on his life while the assassin may have had very personal ties to Carter back in her native England. This was corroborated by series star Hayley Atwell at a con appearance in 2016 who indicated a potential Season 3 would've tied into Carter's past with her brother.

Perhaps if a revival ever does move forward, those shelved plans will finally come to fruition.
