Agatha: House of Harkness, Marvel's WandaVision spinoff starring Kathryn Hahn's titular witch, officially has a production start date.
According to Production Weekly, principal photography will start in January 2023 and go through May of that same year. Previous reports had the series filming this coming October and airing during the 2023-2024 TV season. Production will take place in Atlanta, where many Marvel movies and TV series film.
The series was first reported to be in the works back in early October 2021 and was given an official green light in November of that same year. WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer will develop and write the series as part of her three-year deal with Marvel Studios. The spinoff is also part of Hahn's larger contract with Marvel that will see her appear in other series and movies on Disney+ and the big screen.
Originally positioned as the noisy neighbor Agnes in 2021's WandaVision, Hahn's Agatha was eventually revealed to be an evil sorceress who wanted to steal Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch's powers. However, Wanda is eventually able to defeat Agatha, brainwashing the witch into believing she is actually Agnes and making her forget about her magical past.
Hahn's performance as Agatha received critical and fan acclaim during WandaVision's run. She was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the Emmy's and Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television at the Critics' Choice Television Awards. Her hit song, "Agatha All Along," won the Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics, with songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez taking home the prize.
Agatha: House of Harkness is one of the many TV series Disney+ and Marvel Studios have in the works. Other shows currently in development include She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (Aug. 17), What If...? Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Agatha Harkness debuted in Fantastic Four #94 in January 1970. One of the original witches from the Salem witch trials, she has served both as a friend and enemy to Scarlet Witch and has also protected Franklin Richards as his nanny. Most recently, she mentored the Daughters of Liberty in the art of magic.
